Woohoo! Now we are cooking with gas!

Thanks to a nifty script from Aaron that I received from Sassy I can finally get those extended entries to open up in the main window instead of taking you to the individual entry archive windows. Hopefully, that will allow me to streamline this blog a bit, and make it so much easier to peruse all the offerings without getting blocked by all those long, verbose blocks of text that seem to block your way as you scroll down the page!

Dang, that's cool! I've seen it on other blogs, and I've been meaning to track it down. May come in useful if it ever happens that I start to ramble interminably about something...

That script is evil! Evil I tell you!

Why?

Simple. It changes the address of the browser by adding "#post-number" to the end of the current address. Then, when I refresh the page with the modified address, the browser jumps to the anchor for the post instead of staying at the top of the page where the new entries would be.

Just thought I'd share a pet peeve. =^.^=

Huh? I am confused. I did not see a change in the page address? . . . well now I do. OK, is there a better script? I am always looking for a better script, you know! ;)

The change only occurs upon closing the expanded entry. I should have been more clear.

Truly, it is not the fault of the script in any way, but instead the fault of the default implemenatation that is recommended for use with the script. There are many different ways to fix and/or replace and/or dodge the problem/situation, however, I haven't heard anyone else complain so it probably isn't worth messing with.

If it works for you and I'm the only one bitchin' about it, don't worry. Consider it a fair trade since my site has a tendency to inundate you poor netizens on dial-up.

Uh, no, if there is a better way, I will go with the better way. Let me in on the secret!

Not to imply I know a secret...simply that I know enough JavaScript to devise a solution that wouldn't annoy me.

Dammit! Hit "Post" instead of "Preview"....

Continuing....

Like most endeavors in coding, there are a nearly limitless number of ways to solve the problem. At a quick glance, however, I can see an easy way to tweak the current solution, one used by nearly everyone, that would retain the same functionality across all browsers while not annoying me.

You could change two things and make it not annoy me, however, it would then be broken on just about anything other than IE5.5+ on Windows ONLY, Mozilla 1.2+ (I think this is the right version) and Opera 6+. My preference is to favor cross platform usability since people with strange equipment do show up from time to time.
