Somethin' I caught out of the corner of my eye

Accordin' to Michele,* the followin' is a bit from the new Iraqi Temporary Constitution. The emphasis is mine:

All Iraqis are equal in their rights without regard to gender, sect, opinion, belief, nationality, religion, or origin, and they are equal before the law. Discrimination against an Iraqi citizen on the basis of his gender, nationality, religion, or origin is prohibited. Everyone has the right to life, liberty, and the security of his person. No one may be deprived of his life or liberty, except in accordance with legal procedures. All are equal before the courts.

Now don't that just go to show ya that constitutional construction is a hoot.

*Yeah, I coulda gone to an official source read it for myself but I trust Michele to correctly quote stuff.

Tig, go to Command Post and read the whole constitution. In the beginning it stipulates that gender specific terms refer to both men and women.

Thanks for the update Michele, and I actually assumed as much. However, is it not still amazin' that the male pronouns are the ones that are always used to represent both sexes?
