The enraged navel or the saga of BOOB [Jan. 14, 2005 Edition]

I was layin' warmly on the sofa last eve, watchin' whatever while dozin' intermittently, wonderin' if I should venture to one of my several computers so as to give this report. My thoughts, however, were tanglin' 'tween my displeasure in the acknowledgment of efforts put forth my myself and my co-blogger Moona over these past few days and my utter malaise in givin' a whit 'bout any of it, anyway. I am wonderin' if I am afflicted with BOOB, (burned out on bloggin'), bein' as how I feel I am gettin' minimal feedback on my own efforts.

Despite the supposed networkin' that attends the blogosphere, there has not been one person connected with the publishin' industry contact me regardin' the book project. Strike One.

Durin' the recent blog awards activities, this blog was not even nominated by anyone other than myself. Strike Two.

The utter lack of comments seems to show there is no real appreciation of my efforts. Maybe it is time for me to give up this hobby. I 'member Kate once said in her rules of bloggin' that ya should not be doin' it if ya weren't enjoyin' it. I might have 'bout reached that point. The blogosphere does not need my voice, I 'spect I could really make better use of my time, and I no longer need the piles of money that I receive for my feeble bloggin' efforts [/not].

I don't figger too many of ya'll will miss me. I am hopeful that Moona, however, will continue with her fledglin' bloggin' efforts.

Terrence,

Just because you don't receive comments does not mean your blog is not being read. Many people read blogs and don't comment for whatever reason. In fact, I don't get a lot of comments but I know my blog, The Foreign News Observer, has readers in many countries. How do I know that? I have tracking software that lets me know where the readers are coming from.

Finally, although I read your post, I would not have responded if I had not noticed that you are thinking of giving up. Don't do that. Keep plugging away, and stop feeling sorry for your self.

Don't you dare give up. I love your blog.
You may think you have BOOB.
However, I, on the other hand,
Have BOOB(s)
Will travel

Should ya need more encouragement.

Tiger, am I gonna have to come up there and beat some cheer into ya? I have a charm-filled toddler and I know how to use him! ;-)

Tig, the book is fine and I think it'll just be a matter of time and persistence. You have to remain resolute. And once that foot is in the door, it should be a snap for further works to be published. But the first one is always a bi*ch to get out. Just keep plugging away at it and keep pestering the publishers.

I'm sending you hugs, hon. Me and Susie are worried about you--and jusging by the others here, we're not the ONLY ones!

The first commenter was right on the money with what he said. I'm one of those people who read blogs and don't comment very often. I also thought no one was reading my blog until I installed tracking software. I was wrong. If you need to take a short break, everyone gets burnt out at times, but don't give up! I'm blogrolling you after reading some of your posts. It's a great blog.

Yeah, we all go through this to some degree or another. Random Nuclear Strikes has been around for quite a while, but we're still just a piddly little blog in the grand scheme of things. We get a few hits, get a few comments, and otherwise just post whatever strikes us as being earthshattering at the time. Do other people read it and get inspired - don't know, don't care. Do I have a few friends that stop by and read daily, leaving the occasional comment - yep, and they're who counts. Are there a few people out there who hate my posts/ideology/nerve for posting on the internet - oooohhhhh yeah. And it's for this last group that I keep posting, no matter how down in the dumps I get about the whole blogging thang. Ain't gonna change the world, ain't gonna get rich, so I might as well pi$$ a few people off before my time is up.

Hang in there!

There are lots of us who read but don't comment ('cause when we do, we get the skin flayed off us). Don't give up so fast; if only a few folks read, isn't that enough? You should blog for yourself, not for a mass audience (unless you're in it for the moolah). Anywho, don't do it if it hurts, but best of luck.
