Where did it say "Don't bring a knife"?

It is just that one of the sayin's I have always heard is "Don't bring a knife to a gunfight." Of course, I took this meanin' don't bring just a knife to fight someone holdin' a gun.

Yeah, and I remember the scene with Sean Connery in "The Untouchables," where he talks disparagingly of the gangster who broke into his house "bringing a knife to a gunfight."

Too bad Billy Drago as Frank Nitti brought the Tommy gun...
